Transport networks, logistical corridors and energy installations designed according to historical climatic averages are increasingly exposed to temperatures exceeding their operational thresholds. The disruption witnessed across Europe in June 2026 demonstrates how climatic transformation can convert apparently robust systems into interconnected points of failure. Railway tracks expanded and buckled, overhead electrical lines collapsed, roads softened or fractured, and nuclear reactors reduced production when river water became too warm for legally compliant cooling. These incidents reveal that the climate crisis is not merely environmental: it is simultaneously an economic, technological and social emergency. The Leipzig tram network offers a particularly illustrative case. Extreme temperatures liquefied the bitumen surrounding its rails; once displaced and partially solidified, the material obstructed the tracks and forced the suspension of services.
