Society is not a structure external to individuals nor an aggregate of individuals; it is the interweaving of figurations—chains of interdependence of varying length and density. Game models demonstrate how power balances and unplanned processes emerge from the interweaving of intentional actions. Personal pronouns supply a figurational grammar: I, we, they are positions within shifting power relations. Human beings are open processes of becoming rather than closed substances. Sociology must replace homo clausus with a process-oriented vocabulary capable of describing long-term developments without teleology. The sociologist is a hunter of myths—especially the myth of the isolated individual and the reified society.
