Goñi Mazzitelli develops a heuristic that treats co-production as a situated sequence of problem framing, negotiation, knowledge integration and transformed practice. The co-innovation approach is grounded in work with family farmers and researchers in Uruguay, where unsustainable agricultural systems cannot be addressed through disciplinary expertise alone. Its central theoretical operation is to treat plurality of knowledge not as a static inventory but as something reorganised through interaction. Farmers’ experiential knowledge and scientific expertise are brought into spaces where problems are reformulated, methods negotiated and new practices constructed. The framework is valuable precisely because it retains heterogeneity: co-production is contextual, conflictual and developmental rather than reducible to a universal recipe. Methodologically, it connects systemic analysis with iterative learning and collaborative experimentation. The paper bridges agroecology, innovation studies and transdisciplinary research by showing that knowledge integration is inseparable from changing how problems are framed, who participates in defining them and which forms of action become thinkable.
