Complexity is not a solution-word but a problem-word. Simplifying thought mutilates; complex thought integrates the modes of simplification while rejecting their mutilating consequences. The challenge is to think with and against order, disorder, interaction and organisation. Complexity appears where reduction fails, yet it does not eliminate the need for distinction and precision. The method must be capable of dialogue and negotiation with the real rather than of mastery. Living systems, knowledge systems and social systems exhibit recursive loops, hologrammatic principles and dialogical relations. Complex thought is an adventure of knowledge that accepts uncertainty as constitutive.
