Gorini and Giagnolini transform technical metadata from administrative residue into evidence of creative process. Working with born-digital literary archives, they use forensic tools including Apache Tika and ExifTool to compare file-system and embedded metadata, revealing discrepancies in dates, authorship fields, editing times and revision histories. Their central contribution is interpretive: metadata does not simply state what happened but preserves traces that require contextual reconstruction, especially when time zones, legacy formats and software behaviours distort apparently factual values. The methodological operation combines archival science, philology and computational extraction, allowing patterns of composition and collaboration to emerge from technical attributes normally treated as background. The paper bridges digital forensics with genetic criticism by showing that the infrastructural underside of a file can function as narrative. A digital document has more than textual content; it possesses a technical biography whose layers record movements, revisions, environments and relations that may become essential to understanding how the object came to exist.
